The purpose of the collaborative Postdoctoral Fellowship program between the Massey Cancer Center (MCC) and the University of Puerto Rico Comprehensive Cancer Center is to develop and implement a two-way educational and training experience for graduate/postdoctoral students who have completed terminal doctoral degrees in cancer-related fields.
Cancer Biology and Translational Science Pathway: Postdoctoral fellows will spend one to two years in a Massey Cancer Centre laboratory, where research could focus on various areas of cancer biology (e.g., cancer genetics and epigenetics, cancer cell signaling, tumor microenvironment) and therapeutic development (e.g., novel compound development, drug resistance, clinical trials).
Cancer Prevention and Control Pathway: Postdoctoral fellows will spend one to two years engaged in multidisciplinary cancer prevention and control (CPC) research with members of the Massey Cancer Centre CPC research program. This pathway will offer hybrid and non-virtual options.
Submission of at least one proposal for external support (NIH Diversity Supplement, F32, or other critical support for postdoctoral fellows)
Publication of at least two original peer-reviewed research articles upon completion of the fellowship
Development of an Individual Development Plan with the MCC mentor, which will be reviewed quarterly by a joint UPRCCC
and MCC management team
Preparation of an annual progress report to document significant progress and qualify for the second year of funding
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to attend Massey Cancer Center research seminars, proposal writing workshops, retreats, and symposia offered throughout the year.
The mentor is expected to attend at least one annual scientific event organized by UPRCCC
