Biografía:
El Dr. Josué Pérez Santiago se desempeña actualmente como Profesor Asistente de Biología Computacional y Bioinformática en el UPRCCC y es el Director del Puerto Rico Omics Center. Como parte de su investigación, ha analizado con éxito la expresión de genes de microarrays y los datos de secuenciación de la próxima generación para realizar estudios de mecanización, asociación y clasificación utilizando diferentes plataformas en diferentes áreas de investigación de VIH y cáncer.
El conjunto único de habilidades de investigación, bioinformática y clínica adquiridas durante sus estudios, lo mantienen a la vanguardia de los campos en rápida expansión de la genética y la biología molecular. Su interés de investigación se centra en investigar la interacción entre humanos y microbios en el VIH y el cáncer con el objetivo final de apuntar al microbioma para el desarrollo de estrategias preventivas, de diagnóstico o de tratamiento para el VIH y el cáncer. Su experiencia en ciencia clínica del VIH, bioinformática y microbiomica le permite integrar variables genéticas, clínicas, demográficas y epidemiológicas para construir bioinformática útil y aplicable y modelos estadísticos que serán útiles para descifrar las asociaciones entre la infección por VPH y microbioma oral.
Completó estudios en Ciencias Computacionales y Matemáticas, con un Doctorado en Bioinformática y Sistemas de Biología de la Universidad de San Diego en California. En el 2017 completó sus estudios post-doctorales en NeuroAIDS en el UCSD HIV Neurobehavioral Research Center.
