Dr. Pericchi is actively involved as an independent investigator in the area of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. More so, since he became head of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Center of the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Rio Piedras Campus, and later the Co-Leader of the Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Bioinformatics Core (BEBiC), now Data Sciences and Omics Sciences (DATAOmics), in the U54 Collaborative Project in cancer research between the University of Puerto Rico and the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) of the University of Texas. His experience with the UPR/MDACC Partnership has reinforced his active interest in cancer studies, as one of the most exciting areas in Science. His contributions are mainly on Bayesian Statistics (which takes into account all the information and all uncertainties) and its many applications. Special mention: (1) Objective Bayesian Hypothesis Testing and Model Selection, (2) Bayesian Modeling and Prediction of Disasters and Extreme Values; (3) Contributions to study and model statistically data directly or potentially involved in Cancer; (4) Evaluation of Clinical Diagnosability and Clinical Trials; and (5) Adaptive Calibration of p-values that avoids the replication crisis.
