Dr Pérez got a doctoral degree in Mathematics from Universidad Central de Venezuela, and she has been teaching and researching in Statistics for more than 25 years. Her research interests are focused on Bayesian Statistics, with emphasis in Bayesian analysis of discrete data, Objective Bayesian analysis and applications of Bayesian Statistics in Biology and Medicine. A very important part of Dr. Pérez’s work is collaborative, and she is especially interested in incorporating modern statistical methods into Life Sciences applications, as can be seen in her more than 40 publications. She has also been involved in training scientists from different areas in statistical methods. Dr Pérez is co-founder of the Center for Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (CBB) at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus with his current director, Dr. Luis Pericchi. This center actively participates in the U54 Collaborative Grant between the University of Puerto Rico and the MDAnderson Cancer Center, initially through the Epidemiology and Bioinformatics Core (BEBiC) and now as part of the Data Sciences and Omics Sciences (DATAOmics). Dr Pérez is also a PI of the R25 NIH grant “Increasing Diversity in Interdisciplinary BD2K (IDI-BD2K)”.
